I discovered Aquapel Glass Treatment when I was still riding sport bikes. A Rain X user for years, Aquapel Glass Treatment proved to be a much better solution.
I'm a Southern California boy. It doesn't rain much down here, but when it does, it pours.
And, when it's not pouring, we have fog.
And, when it's not foggy, we have heavy dew.
Yep, it's warm and we have more sunny days than most places, but we still have our driving challenges.
A pet driving peeve for me is not being able to see properly. Half the challenge is being able to get the precipitation off the windows. I learned years ago, when a motorcycle was my primary form of transportation around the San Francisco Bay Area, how helpful a glass treatment product can be. Back then, the only product available was Rain X. Like it or hate it, it was a lifesaver.
Today we have more choices. My top choice is Aquapel Glass Treatment and Rain Repellent, a patented product by PPG Industries(PPG). PPG originally developed their hydrophobic (water repelling) glass treatment formula for aviation use, where it became the industry standard.
Aquapel Glass Treatment is applied to the exterior of vehicle glass, leaving the windshield and other treated glass surfaces water resistant. Yes, I know, glass is already "water resistant", but Aquapel makes glass repel water. So much so that rain and other forms of precipitation beads up and rolls off like nothing you've ever seen. Aquapel dramatically improve driver vision in wet conditions.
Aquapel Glass Treatment forms a chemical bond with glass. Unlike other products that simply coat glass, Aquapel locks on tight. As a result, Aquapel Glass Treatment lasts much longer. I used to treat my glass and helmet visor monthly with Rain X. With Aquapel, I'm down to 2-3 times a year.
Normally as much as $10 per application, Amazon sellers have multi-packs of Aquapel for as little as $2.49 (see Aquapel Automotive Rain Repellent Glass Treatment 4 Pack). That's an excellent value for driving safety and comfort.
Prior to applying Aquapel, your vehicle's exterior glass should be perfectly clean. Remember, Aquapel is going to seal your glass, so you don't want to seal all of the dirt and grime in with it. I can recommend two products that work better than anything else I have tried.
For a solvent type of cleaning, I recommend trying Permatex Auto Glass Stripper (see Permatex GS8-12 No Touch Auto Glass Stripper). Permatex sent a sample of this product to me a while back. It sat on the shelf for nearly a year until a tree leaked sap all over my Bronco's hood and windshield. I wish I had tried it sooner, because my windshield (and chrome) turned out great. I highly recommend this Permatex product as a pre-cleaner for Aquapel.
The other product in my bag of window tricks is Autoglym Glass Polish (see Autoglym Car Glass Polish). This is not as much a chemical cleaner, like the Permatex, as it is a fine polish. Autoglym Glass Polish cuts through dirt, grime, bug remains, salt film and water spots like magic. It won't repair glass damage, but it will prevent glass etching from stubborn water spots if you use it regularly.
Drive safe... Treat your glass with Aquapel!
